Driving Anxiety

Get back behind the wheel.

You might have had an accident or something else has happened and you're struggling to get behind the wheel. Driving anxiety can affect anyone, at any time for any reason, let me help you get past that.

What you can expect

The shift.

// THE EVIDENCE

Driving anxiety is, clinically, a specific phobia response, the same freeze-and-avoid pattern that sits behind stage fright or a fear of flying. It responds to the same evidence base: a 2019 meta-analysis of 17 controlled trials (Valentine et al., *International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis*) found hypnosis produced a large average reduction in anxiety compared with control groups. The mechanism is the same regardless of what triggers it, which is why this responds well even when the fear feels irrational to you already.

What's included

  • +A free, no-pressure diagnostic call before anything else
  • +A plan tailored to you, not an off-the-shelf script
  • +Clinical hypnotherapy blended with performance psychology
  • +An audio recording of every session to keep and listen back to

Why trying harder backfires

You already know the statistics. You know the road is, objectively, safe enough. None of that helps in the moment, because the reaction isn't coming from the part of you that knows things. It's an old threat response firing at a stimulus (motion, enclosed space, height, speed) that your nervous system has flagged as dangerous. Telling yourself to relax rarely works, because you're arguing with the wrong part of your brain.

What a session looks like

I find the specific trigger, whether it's the merge onto a motorway, a bridge, a tunnel or the loss of control that comes with being a passenger, and settle the response at the source rather than just talking you through it. Most people need two to three sessions. You'll keep an audio of each one, and many people use it before a drive in the early weeks as extra reinforcement.

Why Simon?

I grew up around cars. Learnt to drive at 11, raced go-karts against adults by 15, and was winning on the track by 20, four championships in three years of racing. That's not why hypnotherapy works for driving anxiety, the evidence above is, but it's why I know exactly what's happening for you the moment you describe to me what a bridge or a motorway does to you.

Let me help you get back to where you want to be, not where you currently are.

// HOW IT WORKS

We start with a free diagnostic call to pinpoint what's really driving the pattern. From there I build a tailored plan, typically 1-2 sessions, blending clinical hypnotherapy with performance psychology, so the change holds. You'll also get an audio of every session to keep, listening back is where it gets reinforced.

Common questions

Good to know.

That's common, and worth mentioning on your diagnostic call. The approach is the same, settling the pattern the event created, but I'll tailor the pacing around it.
